Friends of the Library Meeting MinutesUpdated June 6, 2008 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE JUNE 6, 2008 The meeting was called to order at 11:30 a.m. Present: Steve Hermes, Kathy Hermes, Barb Fleming, Corinne Herro, Cathy Van Gompel, Nancy Wood, Barbara Wentzel, Mary Janssen, and Kate Manthey. Lunch was served. On a motion by Manthey, 2nd by Fleming the minutes of the December 5, 2007 meeting were approved. Janssen provided a copy of the Treasurer’s report: revenues of March book sales $314.90; expenses from the February beer tasting event $240.79; memorial of $50.00; expense for the Fox Valley Reads t-shirts $153.50. The current balance is $5851.00. Wentzel turned over an additional $722.00 from April and May book sales bringing the grand total to $6573.00. On a motion by Fleming, 2nd by Van Gompel, the treasurer’s report was approved. President Wood asked if anyone would be willing to serve as Secretary for the group. Manthey volunteered and Wentzel said she would be recording secretary if Manthey is unavailable. Activities of the past year were reviewed:
Both were well received. Consensus of the group was to have quarterly programs in September, November, February, and April. 3rd Thursday will be booked if possible; otherwise another day of the week will be booked. Fleming will work with Herro to coordinate the programs as they are arranged. Ideas were presented that included a speaker on birds of prey, dog & cat training, chocolate tasting, cheese tasting, chili cook-off, fly fishing, financial planning, spring planting, and altered books. Targets are proposed as follows: September – birds of prey; November – altered books; February – annual meeting chocolate tasting; April – spring planting. It was suggested that a short survey be provided at each program and to ask for e-mail addresses to let people know about upcoming programs. A bibliography of related books and videos on the topic being discussed was also suggested. Meeting dates for the FOLKS board were selected:
Wentzel discussed various items for FOLKS to consider for purchase: outdoor benches and artificial greenery in both libraries were requested. On a motion by S. Hermes, 2nd by Janssen, Wentzel was authorized to purchase outdoor benches from recycled plastic for each library, the amount to be at the director’s discretion within the budget. On a motion by K. Hermes, 2nd by Van Gompel, the director was authorized to purchase artificial greenery for both libraries at an amount not to exceed $1000. Wentzel also announced that a $500 donation has been received to purchase a VCR/DVD player for the Little Chute library in memory of former FOLKS secretary Phyllis Linder. On a motion by K.
