Books & BrewsMeet us at Seth's Coffee for a new book club for the 20's & 30's crowd. We'll be discussing The Girls of Atomic City by Denise Kiernan. This is the incredible story of the young women of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, one of the Manhattan Project's secret cities, who unwittingly played a crucial role in one of the most significant moments in US history. Everyday Heroes EventHonor our local heroes! Meet veterans, policemen, firemen, plus the ambulance and street crews--those who keep our community safe and make it a great place to live. Some of the topics and skills covered include: how to assess an emergency situation, hands only CPR, AED use, use of an Epi - pen injector, and ICE- the importance of adding "in case of emergency numbers to your phone. The Book SayersWe will be discussing the book The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan. Grace Winter, 22, is both a newlywed and a widow. She is also on trial for her life. In the summer of 1914, the elegant ocean liner carrying Grace and her husband Henry across the Atlantic suffers a mysterious explosion. Setting aside his own safety, Henry secures Grace a place in a lifeboat, which the survivors quickly realize has exceeded capacity. For any to live, some must die. Introduction to KnittingIf you have always wanted to learn how to knit, this is your opportunity. Our knitting librarians will share their knowledge to get you on your way to DIY. Learn the basics of casting on, knitting and finishing a piece. Participants will leave with suggestions for books and online resources to continue developing their skills. Please bring U.S.-size 7, 8 or 9 knitting needles. Yarn will be provided for a practice project - a knit coaster. This program is intended for adults and teens.
