Learn the basics principles and practices of collage, presented by September/October's Artist in Residence, Tyla Hilfreich. This walk-in / open house style workshop will focus on simplicity and balance within composition. All ages and skill levels welcome! No fees or registration required. This is open house style, so drop in anytime and stay as long as you'd like between 4 pm and 7 pm.  Invite friends, share collage tips and more in the Facebook event.

We will focus on five physical elements to tell a story. These physical elements include wood, earth, water, fire, and metal. Using these ideas as a foundation for storytelling, we will then begin to add personal elements to make it unique and our own.

From 2009 to 20016, Laura Vosika, author of the acclaimed time travel series, The Blue Bells Chronicles, a story ranging across modern and medieval Scotland, has made multiple trips to Scotland and northern England to research the locations of her story—the battlefield of Bannockburn, Inverness’s Eden Court, the hills of Monadhliath and Rannoch Moor, Carlisle, the Isle of Arran, the Isle of Iona on the west of Scotland and Lindisfarne off the east coast of England. She will talk about visiting these locations with an eye to researching the times of Robert the Bruce of Braveheart fame. The presentation includes a medieval weapon and instrument display, a power point slide show with photography of her travels, a medieval piece played on harp, and readings from her books.

Discover new artistic possibility when you combine collage and multimedia with monoprinting techniques. First we will layer colors, patterns, and textures on a piece of artistic paper. Then we will integrate monoprint and collage techniques using masks and stencils to build images directly onto paper. The limitations between painting, monoprinting, and collage disappear as you gain a fluidity of process and new creative expression.
